Senior Capstone Project: Device to Facilitate Beaded Jewelry Manufacture
Team #26 has been tasked by Susanne Greelish to build a device that would automate the tedious process of sequencing and stringing beads for her jewelry company, Dovera Designs. Susanne’s current method involves hiring labor to manually perform the task, which has proven to be expensive and time-consuming. Furthermore, the cost of the precious-metal beads is high, which means that losing the beads would cause the company to suffer profits. The device aims to eliminate these issues and help Susanne accelerate her production output. This will be accomplished by replicating the manual process which is split into six different steps - dispensing the correct bead, orienting the bead onto a needle, clamping/unclamping the needle to allow the beads to pass through, and transferring the bead from the end of the needle to the string.
